Former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas regretted the team’s approach to squandering midfielder Jack Wilshere’s talent. Nicholas hopes the newly recovered player from injury is more commonly played this season.
Wilshere only dived five Premier League matches for the Gunners since 2015/2016. Given the injury, Arsenal last season loaned the 25-year-old to Bournemouth.
In Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in the English League Cup on Wednesday (20/09/2017), Wilshere finally made a comeback. Manager Arsene Wenger played it for 90 minutes.
“To be honest, nobody thought Wilshere could get back to the level he was in four or five years ago, because the injury was so bad, but if he could achieve it he still deserves to be defended,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
Wilshere’s contract with Arsenal will end in summer 2018. Nicholas wants the Gunners to re-think if they want to sell the academy dropout.
According to Nicholas, Wilshere is more worthy than the three rivals in midfield, namely Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, and Francis Coquelin.
“Is he a better player than Granit Xhaka? Yes, of course he is better than Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin, and the opportunity for him will start coming,” said the 1980s striker.
“Even Tottenham fans admit he showed great determination to get up, too much talent that Arsenal wasted if they surrendered to him,” Nicholas said.
Wilshere is doubtful against West Bromwich Albion on Monday (25/09/2017). However, Wenger is likely to lower him in the Europa League against BATE Borisov three days later.
Lazio Young Stars Performance Makes Madrid and Manchester Club Fascinated
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic can move clubs next year after his agent Mateja Kezman revealed that there is interest in Lazio midfielders from clubs in Madrid, Manchester and Milan.
The 22-year-old has started this season in a good performance that helps Lazio remain unbeaten in Serie A, as well as beating AC Milan last week. He also played well while helping Lazio win the Europa League opener against Vitesse.
Kezman, representative Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, said that the player is happy to play at the Stadio Olimpico, although he will not rule out the possibility of the player to move to another club.
“There is a lot of interest from some clubs, such as in Madrid, Manchester and Milan. But he wants to be happy, play to keep growing and become one of the best in his position, “said Kezman.
“It was difficult to make him move from Lazio, where he has started the season very well, but I can not rule out his chances of leaving,” he added.
Chase Lazio’s high target
Kezman also sent praise to Lazio who helped develop his client. He also believes the sporting director Igli Tare has created a good environment for Milinkovic-Savic to help the club enjoy success.
“If Milinkovic-Savic continues to play well like this, there will be a lot of contact from various clubs, like in the last transfer market. We’ll see what happens but, for now, the important thing is that he grew up under Simone Inzaghi, a great coach, “he added.
“Currently, Milinkovic-Savic will be happy to continue his adventure in Rome with Lazio. Igli Tare is sometimes criticized, but he does a good job. He brings in some great players and sells some unsatisfying players at incredible prices. Now the Lazio bench is better and they can fight to get the top two and win the Europa League, “he concluded.
Lazio are currently fourth in the Serie A standings with 10 points from 4 matches. (Source: Four Four Two)
